How Phishing URL Detection Works
Our scanner analyzes URLs using 13 heuristic checks designed to identify common phishing patterns. No URL content is downloaded — we analyze the URL structure itself.
Homoglyph Detection
Identifies Unicode characters (often Cyrillic) that look identical to Latin letters. Attackers use these to create domains like "аpple.com" that appear legitimate but use a Cyrillic "a".
Brand Impersonation
Checks if well-known brand names appear in subdomains — a common phishing technique like "paypal.security-update.com".
Suspicious TLDs
Flags domains using TLDs commonly associated with abuse, such as .tk, .ml, .xyz, and .buzz.
URL Obfuscation
Detects techniques like @ symbols, excessive subdomains, URL encoding, IP-based addresses, and non-standard ports.
